Tailoring Magnesium Intake: Why Personal Dosage and Tolerance Matters
3 min read

Essentials
- A one-size-fits-all approach, especially with Magnesium, often fails to meet individual requirements.*
- Dietary intake of magnesium is feasible; however, modern challenges such as mineral depletion in soils and food processing reduce its availability in common foods.*
Magnesium is a mineral that plays various roles in your cognitive health.* That's why it’s quite common to find Magnesium in most nootropics across different brands.
So why isn't HCF® doing the same? Why do only some of our advanced products contain Magnesium?
Well, not including Magnesium in some of our advanced nootropics isn't an oversight. In fact, it's a deliberate choice. Here's why:
Personalized dosage vs. one-size-fits-all.
Let's break it down: we're all unique, right? And when it comes to Magnesium, that's not just some feel-good mantra. The amount of this mineral people need can vary significantly from one individual to another—from tiny 30-40 mg to 400+ mg in some cases.*
Adding the perfect amount of Magnesium in every nootropic could either fall short of or exceed the required intake for many users. And, as you probably know, when it comes down to nootropics, the one-size-fits-all is rarely the correct approach. It's like trying to fit everyone into the same pair of jeans. It's not going to happen.*
Magnesium is an excellent 'support mineral' for other selected nutrients HCF® chooses to include in our advanced nootropics. Plus, at HCF®, we believe in a comprehensive approach to cognitive nourishment that extends beyond merely aiding the head-brain. Our advanced nootropics are designed to nurture the entire brain-heart-gut axis.*
What we do is an integrative approach that supports and harmonizes all three ‘brains’—the Head (Logic & Intellect), the Heart (Emotions & Feelings), and the Gut (Instinct & Intuition).*
In the end, our focus is on thoughtful formulation rather than following a trend.
You may need quite a lot of it.
Magnesium differs slightly from other nutrients that can easily fit in a single capsule due to their low recommended daily intake.
Magnesium's Daily Value (DV) for men aged 19-51 is between 400-420 mg. Women in the same age bracket should aim for 310-320 mg. It's quite a lot.1
When considering our advanced formulations that carefully blend selected nutrients, accommodating such a significant amount of Magnesium becomes challenging.
Plus, a higher Magnesium content might affect the overall composition of our nootropics. And HCF® doesn't compromise on quality & effectiveness just to stay with the trend.
Instead, we want to give you full control to tailor your Magnesium intake based on individual requirements. So, those who need a higher dosage can easily supplement with an isolated Magnesium product, ensuring they receive the right amount without the constraints of a nootropic.
But isn't 'some' better than 'none'?
Again, we don't skip Magnesium in all our formulations. Some of our nootropics still include Magnesium due to its recognized role as a 'support mineral' that can enhance the benefits of other key nutrients.*
However, specific categories of individuals are more susceptible to Magnesium deficiencies, so merely popping a nootropic with trace amounts of this mineral may not be enough.*
Magnesium absorption can be affected by different factors in different individuals. For instance, individuals with a gastrointestinal condition often struggle with nutrient absorption. This can lead to decreased Magnesium uptake, making them prone to deficiencies.*
Research suggests that seniors might also require a different approach to Magnesium supplementation.2 As we age, our body's ability to absorb Magnesium can decrease. And the likelihood of taking other non-natural substances that affect Magnesium absorption increases. A standard nootropic may not bridge the deficiency gap for these people.*
Getting your Magnesium fix from diet alone? Totally doable…for some.*
And yeah, processing can strip away up to 80% of this essential nutrient from our grub. But don't throw in the towel just yet! With a little bit of meal planning and some smart choices, you can still hit your Magnesium goal (or at least most of it) through diet.*
Ever thought about snacking on some nuts or seeds? How about diving into whole grains, beans, or those green veggies like kale and broccoli? And let's not forget the classics: milk, yogurt, and fortified foods. They're all Magnesium goldmines.
Magnesium supplements are just one aspect of overall health management.3 Sure, they can come in handy when in a pinch. Still, they may not be enough to tackle the real reasons behind a Magnesium deficiency.*
